Astrid Knöchlein

Astrid Knöchlein is a baroque oboist, recorder player and passionate chamber musician who performs regularly with leading European baroque orchestras. She has collaborated with Les Arts Florissants, I Barocchisti, Les Musiciens du Prince, Orchestra La Scintilla and many other ensembles and orchestras. She has performed at major concert venues and opera houses worldwide and at major festivals such as the Salzburg Festival with leading conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, William Christie, Diego Fasolis, Giovanni Antonini and Gianluca Capuano. Astrid Knöchlein also accompanied the mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli on her tours for over a decade.

Astrid Knöchlein has won prizes at numerous competitions and was a finalist of the SRP Moeck Solo Recorder Competition in London. Her artistic journey is documented by a number of albums as well as recordings for radio. She has premiered several works for the recorder. Astrid performs the oboe and the recorder with a wide variety of ensembles, with a repertoire ranging from the Middle Ages to the modern era.

In addition to teaching recorder, Astrid is a lecturer for baroque oboe at the conservatory in Bern. Her two-volume study book on ornamentation entitled Verzieren—wie Telemann! was published in 2024.

Astrid completed her recorder and baroque oboe studies in Zurich, Trossingen, Verona and Amsterdam with Matthias Weilenmann, Kees Boeke, Martin Stadler, Paolo Grazzi and Alfredo Bernardini. In 2017 she completed a cultural management degree at the PH Ludwigsburg.
