Johannes Krahl

Johannes Krahl is undoubtedly one of the leading young organists. His repertoire includes not only the important standard works of the organ literature. He is a distinguished interpreter of early music and also demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of contemporary pieces.

In the past, Johannes Krahl has impressively demonstrated his skills by winning first prizes at the 6th International Competition for the Eberhard Friedrich Walcker Prize in Schramberg, the 3rd International Kurt-Boßler Organ Competition in Freiburg, the 22nd International Organ Competition for the Bach Prize in Wiesbaden, the 3rd International Odoyevsky Organ Competition in Moscow, the 8th Northern Ireland International Organ Competition in Armagh and the 8th International Gottfried Silbermann Organ Competition in Freiberg. He also received further awards at the Faszination Organ Competition in Mannheim, the German Music Competition in Bonn, the 4th International Rheinberger Competition in Vaduz, the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition in Berlin and the 32nd International Organ Competition in St Albans. Johannes Krahl is a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation.

The internationally performing organist receives important musical influences from his professors, Martin Schmeding and Matthias Foremny. Master classes with Masaaki Suzuki, Ben van Oosten, Daniel Roth, Olivier Latry, and other important figures in the world of organs expanded his sensitivity to instruments and styles.

Numerous concerts have taken Johannes Krahl to important music festivals (Bachfest Leipzig, Silbermanntage Freiberg, Heinrich-Schütz-Musikfest, Merseburg Organ Festival, Hildebrandt-Tage Naumburg) and to internationally renowned instruments (St. Thomas Church Leipzig, Wenceslas Church Naumburg, Freiberg Cathedral, Merseburg Cathedral, London Westminster Abbey, Cambridge King's College, St. Peter's Basilica Rome).

Johannes Krahl, born in Bautzen, studies organ and orchestral conducting at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Academy of Music and Theater in Leipzig. His musical focus is currently in Leipzig.
